The Douglas Archives

A collection of historical and genalogical records

I am trying to locate the family of Frances Douglas(s) who was born around 1794.  In the Methodist baptism records of her daughters, the parents of Frances are shown as Richard and Anne Douglas.  Frances married James Templeton McGarrah and lived in Old Brentford, Middlesex where she and James both died in 1839.  I have no record of when and where Frances and James were married except that their firstborn, a son James, was born in Scotland in 1813.  James senior was with the Royal Westminster Militia which was stationed in Newry and Armagh in 1812 and I suspect it was there he met and married Frances, but I have no evidence of that.  James himself was born in the parish of Belfast in 1781, and joined the Royal Westminster Militia in Middlesex in 1804.

We did not make much progress when we looked at this a couple of years ago:

May be better luck this time?

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
