The Douglas Archives

A collection of historical and genalogical records

looking for any information with links to Urias/Uriah Douglas born 1802

First of all I would like to say Hello. I am new to this site and am very hopeful that I will find new and helpful Information.

I have been researching my family history and hit a few brick walls over the past 10 years or so. Recently I have hit another, I have traced my history back to a Urias/Uriah Douglas apparently born in Tullytown, Falls Township, Bucks County, Pennsylvania around 1802. I was told by another researcher that his Fathers name was George and he had atleast one brother name Isaac, although I have never personally seen any documentation of this. I was also told that he moved to Butler County, Ohio sometime around 1812. I do know for a fact that he married a Jane Murphy on Jan 1st 1824 and continued to live in Butler County till atleast 1850( I know this from census records) after that he moved to Clinton County, Indiana sometime around 1860 ( again census records). And thats where I have hit my wall. I have tried to research other Douglass/Douglas' that have moved to Clinton County Indiana around the same time thinking I might be able to reverse engineer my problem since most family members of that time tended to move where other family members were. I came across a Joseph Robert Sr, Douglas, born Dec 21 1775 in Mifflin, Pennsylvania. The information said that he moved to Butler County, Ohio and later was a citizen of Jackson Township, Clinton County, Indiana. The exact same as Urias/Uriah. The information also stated that his father was a Joseph A. Douglas, Grandfather was a James Jr. Douglas G Grandfather was a James Sr. Douglas and GG Grandfather was a Lord Archibald Douglas of New Castle or Kent, Delaware via way of Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland Born sometime around 1665. I have not been able to make the connection of Urias/Uriah to Joseph Robert, and have not been able to find any solid information on the names linking Joseph Robert Douglas to Lord Archibald Douglas, Nor can I find any Information that Lord Archibald actually exsisted. Any information would be very much appreciated.

Thank you for your time.

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
