Profile Information

Which Douglas line are you researching? Dates and places help making connections.
My great grandmother was Catherine Sholto Douglas Campbell Anderson and I have long wanted to find out where the "Sholto-Douglas Campbell" comes from. I was born a McDowall and at times this appeared in registers as McDougal. Unfortunately my parents and grandparents were all deceased when I decided to start researching the family and I have none whose surname was actually Douglas although my understanding is that Mac signifies son of Douglas. Family tracing goes through Ayrshire and down to Dumfries-shire. Please can anyone help me find out why my ancestor had "Sholto-Douglas Campbell" as her middle names since naming patterns usually put grandparents on both sides in as middle names. Thanks - Catherine

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
