Which Douglas line are you researching? Dates and places help making connections.: Grant Grand Father Limen Douglass. My Grand Father is Hugh Douglass. Both one and two s's was used. The story goes there was a fight that split the Family and some dropped the 2nd S. They Called themselves Scot Irish. From what we can tell some Scottish people was forced to move to Ireland to populate Ireland with Scottish people.
