Hello Nancy - Which line is your husband on the chart (Kit number)?   Sue's brother is not listed on this chart.  I have the raw data for the Y-DNA37 test from the earlier Ancestry.com test and matched it.  I need to try to add it to the chart.  It keys out to R1a Group, Type 1a , the Drumlanrig-Queensberry line of the Douglass's.  I hope this helps.   Bill

Hello Nancy,  The DNA comparison I was viewing can be found from the following source: Douglas (and variants) Surname Project - Y-DNA Colorized Chart @ https://www.familytreedna.com/public/Douglas?iframe=ycolorized.  We had an earlier Ancestry DNA test done on Sue's brother (Dan) using the 37 marker kit (Y-DNA37).  Looking at the familytreedna chart, Joseph Douglas (1773-18450 [who died in Meriwether Co., GA] and George Washington Douglass are both very close matches to Sue's brother.  There is a very close family connection between this Joseph Douglas, and Sue's 3rd GreatGrandfather, Joseph F. Douglas(s) 1768-1843 who died in Sumter Co., GA.  George Washington Douglass was listed as being born in Mississippi in 1790 in the 1850 Fed. Census.

Hello Nancy.  I just came across your Sep 25th note to William.  Please see my just posted comment to William Douglas dated Jan 13, 2019 concerning Joseph Douglas.  The DNA sequence for the 3rd GrGrandson of Joseph Douglas (1768-1843) [my wife's bro.] is nearly identical to that of George Washington Douglas (1790-1852) of Copiah, MS.  I believe Geo. Washington Douglas was John's son.  This would indicate that Joseph was John's brother, along with William.  We are trying to find out Joseph's parents & siblings.  If you have access to Ancestry.com, see family tree of Max Marshal Douglas for more details.  We'll be glad to share what info I have.    Bill

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
