Henry Downs Jr. was a signer of the Mechlenberg Declaration of Independence. The information I have comes from DAR paperwork that was submitted by my paternal grandmother. Henry Downs Jr. married Frances Chew. Their child, Mildred, married James Brewster in 1780. James and Mildred had Sarah Brewster in 1781. Sarah Brewster married James Dickerson and had a child, Mahala Dickerson, in 1807. Malala married Lewis Sherrill in 1826. Their daughter was Sarah Jane Sherill, who married John Todd in 1844. Sarah Jane and John Todd had a daughter named Mary Eliza Todd in 1847. Mary Eliza married John Leland Ford in 1863 and died in Milam County, Texas, in 1867. John Leland Ford was the child of Mary Eliza and John Leland Ford Sr. John Leland Ford Jr. was born January 13, 1865, in Milam County, Texas. John Leland Ford Jr. married Sarah (Sallie) Ann Page in 1883 in Milam County, Texas. They had a daughter named Myrtle Elizabeth Ford, who was born on Feb. 28, 1886. Myrtle married Austin Edwin Elliott on Feb. 9, 1906. They had a daughter named Retalee Elliott, born on January 13, 1913, in Smithville, Texas. Retalee married Robert Harry Stiteler Sr. in 1933. Their son, Robert Harry Stiteler, Jr., was born on August 23, 1936. I am the daughter of Robert Harry Stiteler, Jr., born on July 19, 1965.
