Amelia, You are researching Robert Douglas b. 02 Aug 1723 in South LeithMidlothianScotland? I have done some research on this line. I am a Riley and Mary Riley was my 5th Great Aunt. Have a lot of information on the Riley line and also some background on Robert and his line going upwards. It is his children that I have had trouble tracking. Perhaps we could help each other, what is your family connection?

Greetings Amelia,

I'm looking for a Douglas family in Scotland who had at least one son, John and his own son James emigrating to Isle ST Jean { now Prince Edward Island } CANADA, in early 1700's . Any links to your searches?  David Douglas

Welcome to the Douglas Archives community network, Amelia.

You may find this page of interest:  http://www.douglashistory.co.uk/history/william_douglasofleith.htm

There has also been discussion about the Douglases of Leith here. Enter 'Leith' in the search box (top right) to see results.

Yours aye,

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
