CLANS TO JOIN BANNOCKBURN WEEKEND 2014

Scotland’s clan chiefs and clans are to come together in 2014 to celebrate the 700th anniversary of the Battle of Bannockburn with a re-enactment weekend near Stirling organised by the National Trust for Scotland. Homecoming Scotland announcement re 2014 events

I have just received this announcement from Homecoming Scotland

Scotland welcomes the world for the Year of Homecoming Scotland 2014. The year-long programme of events will be celebrating the very best of Scotland’s food and drink, our fantastic active and natural resources as well as our creativity, culture and ancestral heritage.  The year will run from December 31 to December 31 and will be celebrated from Shetland to Stranraer.

Should there be a Clan Douglas Gathering in 2014?

EventScotland has announced the early details of the funding opportunities to create Scotland's Homecoming celebrations in 2014. This announcement was made at the Scottish Tourism Week conference and included plans to make £3 Million available to support a wide range of Homecoming 2014 events.

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.
