A collection of historical and genalogical records

Colonel George Douglas of Accomack County, Virginia, was born about 1695 in Scotland. I suggest his father was named James Douglas and his grandfather, George Douglas. His relationship to Lt Colonel Edward Douglas of Northampton County was at most a distant one. George Douglas was described by his descendant Colonel Cropper Jennings Wise "as a Scotsman of gentle birth of exceptional character and attainments". He was a lawyer of high regard, a member of the King's Counsel and a member of Burgess for thirty-two years. His wife was Tabitha Drummond daughter of Hill Drummond and Tabitha Scarburgh. Her ancestors included the Wise, West, Scarburgh, Littleton, Hill, Drummond, Drake, and Gawton families. Not one male in these families had the given name of James.

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
