The Douglas Archives

A collection of historical and genalogical records

A Douglas family bible in the possession of WESC Foundation in Exeter is to be auctioned.

The bible donated to the charity once belonged (according to the writing inside the front cover) to Rev. Robert Douglas, who was gifted it in 1883. He then gave it to his son the Rev. Percy Douglas in 1891 and at some point it came into the possession of his eldest son also named Percy Douglas and he gifted it to a newly ordained priest at Wells in 1981 (whose name can't be made out).

There is also information about the last Percy Douglas regarding his being injured on May 21st 1915 and again on Aug 27th 1916 and being taken to a military hospital in Rouen.

There are several Rev Robert Douglases listed in the Douglas Archives, including some from around 1883. But which one?  I am unable to find anyone named Rev Percy Douglas, so am unable to make the link.

If anyone can help that would be good.

I will post details of the auction once they are to hand for anyone interested in acquiring it.

WESC Foundation provides education and care of young people with visual impairment and/or complex needs and their transition into school, college and beyond.  Funds raised from the auction will help the charity.

Note: Wells is in Somerset, England, about 70 miles from Exeter.

He was the Grandfather of Eddie Roberts. If anyone knows, Eddie, can you please tell him?

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
