Welcome to our Community Network, Alison.

As you will know, there were several "Aurora" ships. Whether the one that carried immigrants in 1848 is the same as the one that carried convicts in 1833, I do not know.

I have a Thomas Douglas, son of William and Isabella, d1856 here: http://www.douglashistory.co.uk/famgen/getperson.php?personID=I32452&tree=tree1 He was not, acording to my records, born on board the ship.

The Aurora sailed from Plymouth on the 17th of August 1848 and arrived off Point Henry Geelong on the 7th instant (December) , having made the passage in 110 days.

"The passengers consist of 33 families viz Husbands 33 Wives 33. Children 50, in all 116, Single men 58, Single Women 30 in all 204 Souls.
They seem to have been Selected with much judgement, the greater part are from Scotland, Several from Cornwall only one married Couple and one Single female from Ireland, they appear to be a useful and highly respectable class of General Servants." William, Isabella and thomas are listed here: http://srwww.records.nsw.gov.au/ebook/list.asp?series=NRS5316&item=4_4816&ship=Aurora

You might like to consider joining the Australian Immigrant group.

Yours aye,

William

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
