Tammie, I am by paternal ancestry a Douglass whose ancestor George Douglass is thought to have been born in the same area in Ireland as your Joseph Douglass. Would like to discuss the lines further with you as my Y-DNA is an exact match with your Joseph Douglass' DNA signature at FTDNA.
A couple of years ago, you told me about your ggg Grand father Orr Douglass, who was born in 1808 Troqueer Parish Kirkcudbright Scotland, Other children born in Blackshaw Caerlaverock Dumfrieshire Scotland. Joseph was sent to Australia from Airdree Farm in the parish of Kirkbean as a Convict in 1815 on the Baring assigned to Sir John Jamison 'the colony only Knight the Regentville Penrith Australia' (sic).
The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.
Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.
Professions also help.
'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.
