Yes, thank you, Steve.  I was looking at it last night, but not had time to any work on it yet.

I have recently added the Garallan family tree.  I hope someone might be able to let me have a readable version!

There are a couple of discussions about the family in the forum.  Search using the box, top right on the page.

Do get in touch when finalising your plans, as it would be good to meet up.

There is a suggested itinerary here:  http://www.douglashistory.co.uk/history/articles/itinerary.htm

or you could follow the one we used for the 2014 Clan Gathering:  http://www.douglashistory.co.uk/gathering

Many visitors enjoy driving up passed Loch Lomond, on through Glen Coe and up to Loch Ness - but that is not Douglas country!

If you write an article in the forum, you can attach a document.  Or you can just send your family details to me, and I will add them to the genealogy database.

Further rummaging has turned up this about James Walter Douglas:  http://newsarch.rootsweb.com/th/read/DOUGLAS/1999-02/0918701655

J.W. DOUGLAS was born in Loudoun Co., VA, Nov 5, 1797. He apparently had no children of his own, but two step-children?

This would be Briery Church, a historic Presbyterian Church located at Briery, Prince Edward County, Virginia.  At the time of James Douglas, Briery Church derived its income, in part, from the ownership and hiring out of slaves.  As I understand the situation, he tried to strike a balance between those supporting this and those who opposed it.

Welcome to our group, Stevan.

It would be helpful if you were able to put dates, places and other names to help identify 'your' Charles Douglas.

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
