When Samuel Davis Douglass and his twin brother Samuel Davis were born on March 20, 1821, in Chazy, New York, their father, Ezekiel, was 26, and their mother, Alice, was 24. He married Caroline Hutchinson on September 5, 1850, in West Chazy, New York. They had four children in 23 years. He died on July 6, 1902, in Independence, Iowa, having lived a long life of 81 years, and was buried in Olin, Iowa.

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.
