Hi Karen,

I'm Cara's sister. Just read a comment from Nigel Douglas letting us know that  Susanna Douglas b 1741 we had as Daniel Wells Douglas' mother is incorrect. Susannah Douglas b.1741 CW, married in 1770 John Jarvis of Greatworth. They had 2 children, James and Mary.

Our search continues for a Susanna Douglas in Byfield. So sorry about the wrong info. Thanks Karen.

Cheers,

Kim

Hi Karen, sorry was in a rush this morning. Yes, we do have John Douglas b 1829 in Byfield and his wife Mary Dury b 1833 in our ancestry tree, with daughter Sarah Elizabeth b 1857 - Sarah being your great grandmother, mother of William (you mentioned). Our direct line continues down from John's brother, Daniel Douglas b 1819 in Byfield. There were five siblings, Mary Ann b 1810, George b 1814, Daniel b 1819, Susanna b 1823 and John b 1829, their parents being Daniel Wells Douglas 1784-1863 and his wife Elizabeth Law 1790-1857. Daniel Wells Douglas was base born to Susanna Douglas b 1741 in Chipping Warden. We believe she was the daughter of George Douglas b 1727 (CW) and Anne Keen b 1703 (CW). They had eight children - George 1723-1723, Mary b 1725 (married William Cooper), George b 1727 (married Anne Pittom - George and Anne moved to Culworth and had eight children), Elizabeth b 1731, Thomas b 1733, Ann b 1736, Samuel b 1739 and Susanna b 1741.

At the moment we're uncertain as to the father of Daniel Wells Douglas 1784-1863, base born to Susanna Douglas b 1741(aged 43 at time of Daniel's birth) pauper? Researching we discovered a Daniel Hobbs Wells b 1753 (Bletchley) in the area around her age. Still researching...

Great to hear from you Karen, my sister Kim and I have been researching for quite a number of years. Any information you might have would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers Cara Douglas

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
