Lt Col Hon James Stuart, born 17 April 1741 ; captain 20th Foot, 24 February 1762; lieutenant-colonel Sutherland Fencible Regiment, 1793 ; deputy-governor of Fort George, 13 January 1777 ; captain North British Veteran Battalion, 21 April 1803. Died at Fort George 4 May 1808. He died unmarried.

MARRIAGE: August 24, 1818. At Calcutta, Mr J. Campbell of the Bengal civil service, to Margaret Flora, daughter of the late Mr Douglas, West Indies, and niece of Major J. L. Stuart, honourable East India Company's service.

West Indies connection 1: James Robert Douglas, born 1825, youngest son of Archibald Douglas, advocate, died Besquia, St Vincent, on 8 November 1849

West Indies connection 2: Archibald Douglas, (1776-1860), was the son of John Douglas (1745-) and C (1745-) and Cecilia Buchanan (1740-) and a grandson of William Douglas of Leith. Archibald was in partnership with his two brothers, John and Thomas, who had sugar and cotton estates in the Guianas and the West Indies, on Berbice and Demerara. Together, they formed the Glasgow-based merchant house of J. T. and A. Douglas & Co.
