The Douglas Archives

A collection of historical and genalogical records

I am getting muddled as to which is which - but you will see that I have uploaded two similar but different photos. If you can identify them please let me know! Many thanks,

Yes - it is hard to spot the difference as the pose is identical and for all photographs from this time sitters had to be able to keep very still.  I assumed they were the same till I read that you can never get duplicates of daguerreotypes.  Look at the position of the sitter's left hand - in one it is very close to the edge of the picture, in the other it must be six inches back.  The folds in the table cloth are also different.  So there are two differences - can anyone spot any more?!!

Spot the difference!

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
