A collection of historical and genalogical records

This is the front and the next picture is the reverse with Mrs Spiller written on the back and then in another hand Ellen. Gush and Ferguson were at this address from 1860 to 1866 and the dress is exactly the 1860s. Could this be the wife of Col George Spiller, being Caroline Alicia Elizabeth Drummond nee Woodgate? If so she was born in 1806, married in 1824 and died in 1877. If so she would have been early to mid 50s when this was taken.

William - many thanks!  They are all linked through Georgina H Douglas / Cotton.  Arthur Macartney Filgate was Georgina's second husband after CL Cotton died.  Marjorie "Bunny" was the 3rd and youngest child of the first marriage - I actually remember meeting her a couple of times.  Ellen was Georgina's mother's sister - so Juliana's sister.   I guess she was the chaperone.  Georgina married Arthur but then died within a year or two in childbirth.  Tough times.

Hi William,  I think Ellen was her daughter - Ellen Ann Rachel Spiller 1847 or 9 to 1913 and a sister to Juliana Catherine Spiller / Barnes / Douglas.  Seth D tells me that Juliana and Ellean were two of 22 children - I have identities for 15 or 16 but I've never found a Spiller contact to share the info with and compare my findings!  Not for want of trying!

So how does Ellen fit in?

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
