The Douglas Archives

A collection of historical and genalogical records

Hi,  Currently researching Sir Robert Montgomerie of Skelmorlie Castle and his wife Dame Margaret Douglas.  Can you please help me with dates of birth, marriage and death for them with sources?  Have him born 1571 and dying in 1650. Married in 1593. Have her born in 1569, married at 24 in Nov 1593 (according to Nat Archives) and died 1624. Thanks.

This does not answer your question, but might be of interest: http://www.douglashistory.co.uk/history/Places/Churches&Abbeys/...

Thanks.  I volunteer as a tour guide there and have come to learn that SRM hid a code in there.  Seriously.  Not at liberty to discuss it here until after 29th Nov.  He sees her as a Goddess, Queen and Cardinal Virtue (Prudence).  Clearly he adored her.

Oh!  So you will know mare about it than I do!
And I have still not visited. Closed now til next year, I think?
Maybe you will post an update after 29th November?

Well, it has a hidden history linked to both Parliaments.  Also Masonic. Biblical and others including alchemy and astronomy. Private tours? If you have enough bodies can be arranged over the Winter of groups less than 8. But you need to phone Largs Museum to arrange that a week in advance. We just had a meeting on it today.

They loved the tour.  I also went to Rosslyn and found ALL the same elements/components/science/Celtic/Roman/Religion/Greek/metals/planets etc.  DMD and SRM have been hugely underrated.  I now know HOW he got the architect from Mary Queen of Scots Tomb to do DMD's.  It is ALL in the building.

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
