My Great Great Grandmother was Jane or Jean DOUGLAS b1813.

I found Jane in Whitehaven, Cumberland England where, in 1835 she married Thomas BENNET(T). Jane had a brother, John DOUGLAS, who settled in Liverpool. Jane was kind enough to visit her brother on census night, 1861, as several family members seem to have made a habit of! This helped me to find Jane on a surviving fragment of the 1821 Census in Ireland and to be reasonably confident it was her.

She was on the 1821 Census at Edenburt in the County of Cavan with a birth year of 1813. There, she lived with her brothers, Alex'r (Alexander), and John, and her widowed Mother Anne, who was aged just 30. The family does not appear on the 1823 Tithe Applotment books for the area so I assume they had gone to England by then.

Naturally I would like to get beyond Anne DOUGLAS. I did find a marriage of an Anne SPILLER to a Richard DOUGLAS in 1813 (Jane was the oldest child) but I could find no other record of marriage for an Anne to anybody named DOUGLAS. If Richard was the ancestor, it seems odd to me that none of the children on the 1821 census were named after him. As Alex'r was the oldest boy I suspect that their father might have also been Alexander.
