A collection of historical and genalogical records
I've all but given up my search for George Douglas and his wife Mary Sweeney, whose son Aaron my paternal Gt grandfather (b. 1837 Meath, Ireland-1901 Richmond, Melbourne, Vic, Australia).Aaron married Rose Coffey,(also from Meath, Ireland),1865 Melbourne Australia. I believe my next step may be taking a DNA test.
I have however decided to share this recent excerpt of military service from 'Fold Images' of a William Douglas, who fought in the 18th Irish Royal Foot Regiment (1805 - 1821) hoping it may help some one else searching, if not now in the future.
This William Douglas was born about 1780, Loughland Co. Down (if not mistaken).
However, I cannot work out why he was recruited on The Isle of Jersey in 1805, or which war it involved. Perhaps a War historian might offer insight.
I simply take an interest in all George's and William's, because these two names continue to be embraced among the descendants.
Happy hunting! I wish you all well in your quests.
Alison H.(Victoria, Australia)
Thank you so much for contributing to this Douglas in Ireland blog.
Your news sounds extremely promising; about the closest so far to my search, though mine is probably different being in Meath. (See below).
I cannot help you unfortunately..but am happy to collaborate by means of my all world access to ancestry.com.
The fact you have substantiated your direct family line gives me renewed hope.
Is this discussion secure enough to share an email address?
