William Douglass Sr. (?) / Georgia (US) Douglass's

I have been tracing my Douglass line for a while now and have hit a wall that I cannot seem to move through. My Great Aunt Sarah was a librarian and is said to have documented our Douglass line back to Scotland. However, no one in the family seems to know where that information went once she passed away. I do have some of her documentation that she shared with my Grandfather. Any information that I could learn would be greatly appreciated. Below I what I have:

William Douglas Sr. (?) 1776 - 1840
- I have not been able to document this William.
- All of his info is found in a family history document from my Aunt Sarah and excerpts my Grandfather pulled out of a family Bible.
- I have 3 different dates of his death...all in 1840.
- Married a Margaret (1778 or 1770 - 1854?). Last name unknown. Family documents say last name began with an "H" or an "N".
- Margaret, or ME Douglas, lists her birthplace as Georgia.
- Margaret and William had 5 children: Mary Ann, Sarah T., Margaret Elizabeth, Thomas Osborn, William A.
- All show up in or around Columbus, Muscogee County, Georgia (US). William's Margaret is found in the 1850 Census living with her daughter (Margaret Elizabeth) in Tazewell, Marion County, Georgia (US).
- William's father (supposedly William also) was said to be a Revolutionary War Soldier.

William A Douglas 1813 - 1868
- Son of William Sr.
- Married a Harriet Tarver in Columbus, Muscogee County, Georgia (US) in 1839.
- Doubtful that Harriet was his first wife based on the year of birth for WS Douglass 1833 (my Great Great Grandfather)
- William A is buried in Linwood Cemetary in Columbus, Muskogee County, Georgia (US)
- Died 08 Oct 1868

WS Douglass 1833 - 1896
- Son of William A.
- Soldier in the US Civil War (Confederacy)
- Based on my Grandfather's name, I believe his full name was Warren Shines Douglass as my Grandfather was named after him.

Eli,  you probably know about this website http://georgiadouglases.wixsite.com/genealogy ?

But if not, you do now! And I hope it helps.

William

Yes. I saw your post about that site. I have reached out to them as well. Unfortunately, thus far, it hasn't offered any additional or new information.

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
