Methven armorial

A member of the Methven family recently shared their family crest.

I was not aware of a familial linkage so have done some research, which may or may not be accurate as the heart in this image is not 'flaming'.

Here's what I found:

The Methven coat of arms does not traditionally include a heart. While some Smith families (who are associated with Methven through the Smythes of Methven line) have used a flaming heart crest, this is not the official crest of the Methven name itself. The Smythe of Methven crest is a dolphin, with the motto "Mediis Tranquillus in Undis" (calm in the midst of waters). The flaming heart crest, sometimes seen, belongs to a Smith merchant family of Edinburgh and is also associated with Mackenzie of Redcastle, not Methven.

Methven Name Origin:
The surname Methven is derived from the place name Methven near Perth, Scotland, possibly meaning "middle stone".
Smythes of Methven:
The Smythe family acquired lands and Methven Castle in 1664 and are a prominent Methven family. Their crest is a dolphin, not a heart.
Smith Crest:
While some Smith families, including those associated with Methven, have used a flaming heart crest, this is not the Methven coat of arms.
Flaming Heart Crest:
The flaming heart crest is associated with the Smith merchant family of Edinburgh and Mackenzie of Redcastle, not the Methven clan.
