I can’t call this post DNA progress, as this has beeen limited.
originally I took DNA test at Ancestry, I also uploaded to My Heritage, Gedmatch, and Family Tree DNA.
I hen also took a test at 23 and me who don’t allow uploads.
After a few years, there are a good number of matches, and these variably occur across quite a number of different branches.
I also uploaded to DNA painter.
The idea is you can identify which segments stem from particular ancestral couples.
some success here as well, though again no major breakthroughs
Next I took the Y DNA test.
Disappointingly no close matches.
one of the best matches had ancestry starting in Scotland, heading via Northern Ireland to USA.
This suggest not proves mt poosble Scottish ancestry.
Recently I upgrade my y DNA to big Y 700.
i now have a more precise terminal haplogroup R-BY46957
this is a subgroup of R M269
The hope was this would link me to an early group, but I suppose Y DNA is still increasing, so time may tell
Also I joined the Douglas DNA project.
so I would encourage more Douglases to join the DNA journey, join the Douglas project, the more people the greater the likelihood of finding connections

Been doing this over a half century.
1. THE FAMILY KNOWS BEST.
Basically three different groupings on surname FINCH. Different answers were given all accepted as correct.
(a named from the animal Oxford-elk, Webster-moose, one in 25 markers puts me about a thousand years back into Germany like my R-U106 indicates)
Y-DNA follows Anglo surnames, and mtDNA follows indigenous American clan lines.
