Australian immigrants

We are looking for the ancestry of early immigrants to Australia.

Bombay Douglas.

My 4x great grandfather Major James Douglas was with the East India Company in Bombay

1782-1809.His four children were born there including my 3xgreat grandmother Rachel.

Rachel Douglas born 10th april 1797.

Catharine Douglas born 22nd feb 1799.

Mary Douglas born 29th october 1801.

James Douglas born 1804.

 

Rachel Douglas married James White at St Cuthberts Edinburgh in 1821.

James white was a surgeon living at 5 Windmill Street Edinburgh.

He came to Sydney Australia with his wife and six children in 1854.

His son William White (B) 1829 in Edinburgh was the colonial architect

of Maitland New South Wales.

 

James Douglas jnr was also a surgeon and came to Sydney in 1829.

He died at 80 Glebe Road Sydney on the 27th april 1897 unmarried.

He is buried at Balmain cemetery.

 

Rachel Douglas died 23rd may 1865 at 3 Hope Terrace Glebe Road

Sydney buried at Gore Hill cemetery Nth Sydney.

Originally buried at Devonshire Street Methodist cemetery but later

moved to Gore Hill.

 

Major James Douglas died in 1819 at "Edenside" Kelso Roxburgh.

I don't know where he was born or parents.

His spouse was Atcha Babee who I thought might be Indian, but I

recently found many Babee's living in D

    Hi William,
    the part that is missing is the name Babee can be found in Drenthe Holland in the 19th century.
    I don't think Atcha could be an Irish name.
    I have Major James Douglas's will and he died in 1819.
    He applied for retirement in Bombay in 1809.
    I have tried to find something about Edenside and all I can find is the road from Kelso to the village
    Ednham is called Edenside road.
    Could you please explain what H.E.IC.S stands for.
