Clan Douglas Gathering - 2014

Plans are in hand to hold a Clan Douglas Gathering in Scotland in 2014.

The Gathering will be was held 30th June - 6th July 2014, following the 700th anniversary of the Battle of Bannockburn

A range of activities are proposed. We welcome suggestions as the what and where these might be. Until numbers are known, events and activities cannot be firmed up, but there will include castle visits and opportunities to meet senior Douglas leaders (We have no Chief!).

This group has been established to enable ideas to be discussed, dates to be set, and an organising committee to be established.

So let us know what you think!

Clan Heraldry: What you can and can’t wear and display.

Coming to Scotland in 2014? Attending the Clan Gathering? Want to get it right? Well aware that feathers may be ruffled and noses out-jointed, Dr Bruce Durie, Shenachie to the Chief of Durie, offers a straightforward guide…

Highland games, gatherings, processions and so on are marvellous opportunities to show allegiance to a Clan, Family or Name, a feeling for heritage and support for all things Scottish. However, when In Scotland, all things heraldic and armorial are a matter of law – not just custom and practice – so it make sense to know what the rules are and how to obey them.

Douglas, for instance, having no Chief, can never be a Clan ?  .... Appoint Morton .

I have seen Durie's point about clans many times before, but he is not looking at reality, is he?

I hope folk will comment on this on Scot Clans' sister site, http://www.tartanfootprint.com/

I am somewhat confused by all this, is a golf shirt with the clan crest allowed to be worn? I ask as I have one as well as a cap with the Urquhart crest on it.
