I understand that our Scottish ancestor arrived in Jamaica in the mid 1830s, married a Jamaican woman named Bolt and had a son, John Bolt Douglas in 1940...my great grandfather.

I had not come across the name Bolt before (as a Douglas name), however, I note that a John Bolt Douglas features in Who's Who in Jamaica, c1945 (he was dead by then, I think) - but have not been able to find out more - yet! Could this be your great, great grandfather?
