I have tracked my ancestory on the Douglas side back to Primrose Douglas. I would love to know why he was called "Primrose" and to trace further back. According to my records his father was a gardener and his name was Daniel. I obtained this from the marriage certificate of his son, John Douglas to Martha Stacey. They were married in Kent, England.
yes I knew about the Queen Elizabeth' s grand- daughter getting married in this church last summer. I visited Canongate Kirk a couple of years ago. I was quite delighted to be there because of the link with Primrose Douglas. Apparently this is where the Queen attends Sunday services when she is in Scotland. The church has a most interesting history.
The only information I had with regard to the parents of Primrose was from the record of his 2nd marriage in London. it is great that you have more details regarding his parents.
According to the records I have Primrose moved to London about 1829. I knew nothing about his being a soldier for the Duke of Wellington or his son being born in France etc. This is all very exciting.l
Now I am presuming there is only one Primrose Douglas around this time i.e year 1810 .
William Douglas
Perhaps you can give us a few more details about Primrose to see if anyone can help with your research?
Yours aye,
William

I wonder if Jean Haswell's birthdate might be 1764 in light of her husband's birthdate of 1760?
