Which Douglas line are you researching? Dates and places help making connections.
Archibald (sometimes called James) Douglas was, according to a handwritten family tree, my gt-gt-gt-gt grandfather. He married Margaret Flora Stuart (1771-1847) who was the daughter of Col. the Hon. James Stuart (1741-1808), the younger son of the 8th Earl of Moray. I have no birth or death dates for Archibald Douglas, but his elder daughter, Maria Esperanza was born in 1795 and at the time of his younger daughter's, Margaret Flora, marriage in 1818, he was referred to as the late Mr. Douglas of the West Indies. The handwritten family tree describes him as Black Douglas; whether that is referring to his racial ancestry or to distiguish him from the Red Douglases, I don't know. I wish to find out more about Archibald Douglas (dates etc).
