Welcome to our Community Network, Jennifer.

Who is the earliest Douglas ancestor that you can trace?  The more details that you can give, the better the chances of someone being able to help.

If you look around the site, and can help anyone else, that is also good, because people then notice you, and try to help your research as well.

If you need any assistance, please get in touch.

    Yours aye,

I have just read a post in the other Forum, from 'Jennifer'.  Is that also you?
Are we looking for the mysterious John Douglas, possibly born in 1695, who married Eunice Rattleleaf.
I have seen some stories that claim she may have been an 'Indian Princess' (They are always a 'princess'!). Or that her name was Ratcliffe.
Other stories link him to the John Douglass, who  aged 12, was captured in London on the wharfs by a ship that was leaving. He had a rich Uncle with a shop in London, who offered him his inheritance if he would come live with him (as he had no issue) The ship came into Boston area , John went to Middleborough bought a farm in the sixteen shilling purchase.
I have a note that John is possibly a son of William, b1640 (or 1659) (or 1695 in Douglas, Lanarkshire) in Scotland.
John and Eunice were the grandparents of the John who married Lydia Southworth.
It would be good to solve this mystery. I wonder if anyone on this line has had their DNA tested?
    Yours aye,
    William
