Which Douglas line are you researching? Dates and places help making connections.
Primary interest in Douglases in the neighbouring parishes of Penninghame (Wigtownshire) and Minnigaff (Kirkcudbrightshire) in 17C. I have a large number of DNA matches with others with Douglas ancestors, especially in the USA. Related Galloway families: Heron, Kennedy, McKie/McKee, McCulloch, McHarg, McMillan
Who is your earliest known Douglas ancestor?
William Douglas, born Penninghame, Wigtownshire 1679. Married Sarah McHarg in 1716. Lived in Glenvernoch 1728 and died at Brigton by the River Cree 1753.
Penninghame has cropped up on this forum a number of thime. You can use the search facility to find them. Bob Henry is a good source of information on the area.
I have this note:
Gilbert Douglas had the tenancy of the farm of Glenrassie in Castle Stewart in the parish of Penninghame, Wigtownshire, during 1679, 1684, 1704 & 1711. He was born 28/09/1648 and was taken prisoner at the battle of Bothwell Bridge, following which he was released but suffered great losses at the hands of the victors. It is said that Gilbert was descended from William Douglas who had the lands of Carsnestock in the Moss of Cree, from Archibald, Lord Douglas, known as Black Archibald
