The earliest in the line that I can find is Donald Douglas, (1736 - 1768), who was apparently a descendant of the Douglases who escorted Margaret Douglas to the Highlands in the 11th or 12th century. She married the Earl of Caithness.
I like to think that this means Donald emigrated from Caithness, buttat is just supposition.
