Ah!  I thought that I recognised your name, Stephen.

We communicated in 2010, and also more recently.

I include the following from those earlier conversations in order that the material can be found in one place...

...looking for information on my 4x great grandfather
Major James Douglas of the East India Company.
He retired from the company in 1809 and died 1819
    at Edenside Kelso Roxburgh.
His four children were born in Bombay India.
    My 3xgreat grandmother Rachel (B) 1797 Catherine(B) 1799
    Mary(B) 1901 and James(B) 1904.
His wife was Atcha Babee who was either Dutch or German.
Rachel Douglas married a James White a surgeon in Edinburgin 1821
and emergrated to Australia in 1854.
Her brother James Douglas also a surgeon emigrated earlier in the 1840's.
I don't know where Major James Douglas was born or the year and who his
    parents were.

...Thanks so much for the information you sent, particularly
about the marriage of Mary Douglas to a surgeon.
I didn't know what became of her after the rest of the family
    emigrated to Sydney Australia.
I have a copy of Major Douglas will and it is possible he
died earlier than 1819 as he still had money invested
in Bombay and was collecting a pension from the East
    India Company.
He left a considerable estate for that time.
Do you think" Edenside"was his estate?
If he was buried in Kelso he might have a tombstone.

...Can anyone tell me if there is a graveyard at Springwood Park Kelso Roxburugh. Other wise where were the Douglas of Springwood park laid to rest. My 4th great grandfather Major James Douglas died at this estate Edenside Kelso in 1814 and I cannot find his last resting place. He was sent out to India in 1784 on the HEISC Camden as a cadet and later took a Bibi (mistress) having four children to her, one being my 3x great grandmother. He took the children back to Scotland in 1807 on the Huddart and left the Bibi behind in Bombay. The children were light skinned so were accepted into Scottish society while Bibi Atcha would not have. He was born at Springwood Park in 1768 and I believe illegitimate, the reason for him being shipped out to India. Any help would be most appreciated.

Frustratingly, I have made no further progress.
