Hello Sylvia, I wonder if you could let me know your connection with Primrose Douglas. I would say he is a 4x great grandfather to me on my mother's side of the family. I found it quite exciting to obtain the extra information you were able to provide thank you. Maria
Thank you for that feedback Sylvia. I have traced my ancestry back to another son of Primrose Douglas, John Douglas, who was born about 1810. Having, after a great deal of research established that I had the right John Douglas (there seemed to be hundreds) I eventually tracked down John Douglas's marriage record. It was on this record that I first encountered the name of Primrose Douglas. Both Primrose and his wife, Jane, were witnesses at the marriage in 1838. The marriage took place in Chiselhurst Parish, Kent and Primrose's profession was recorded as "Police Officer".
John and his wife Martha later moved to the Battersea area where they had a grocer's shop. They had 3 sons one of whom, Alfred, was my great, great, grandfather.
A daughter, Agnes was born to Primrose and Jane in 1829 in Hounslow London. I was able to follow the movements of the family around London largely through census records.
Alfred Douglas married Maria Tripp at St Luke's Parish Church Chelsea, London in 1854
Alfred Douglas with his wife Maria Tripp and baby son Alfred George Power Douglas (born 1855 in Battersea) immigrated to Australia in 1856.
Hello Sylvia Snipp, I have just joined the Douglas Archive because my great-great-grandmother is Mary Ann Douglas, daughter of Primrose Douglas. She was born in Cambrai France about 1810. I have not yet confirmed her birthdate but do have extensive information about her marriage and her very large family around London, UK. Connie Williams
