    Hello Ian

I am very pleased to hear from you and I am happy to pass on any information I have regarding Primrose Douglas etc. I am a descendant of Primrose's son, John who was born about 1811. We are fortunate that our ancestor had such an uncommon first name. It has really helped in the search for ancestors. I have information regarding Primrose being one of the Bow Street horse patrol in London. It was found by my grand-daughter, Cara. I have to cut this message short but will get back to you soon.

    Kind regards, Maria McElroy

Further to yesterday's message. It took a great deal of research to establish I had the correct "John Douglas". John Douglas married Martha Stacey  in 1838 at the Parish Church in Chiselhurst, Kent.  Martha was born in Foots Cray, Kent. Primrose Douglas and his wife, Jane, were witnesses at the marriage. I note that your ancestor, William, brother of John was also living in this area around that time.

John and Martha had 3 sons, Alfred, George and John. Alfred and George were born before 1838 so John and Martha were not officially married when they were born. Their 3rd son, John, was born in Islington, London.

Alfred is my great, great grandfather. He married Maria Tripp in London in 1854.

They were married at St. Luke's Parish church, Chelsea. Their first child, Alfred George, Power, Douglas was born in London in 1855. Alfred, Maria, and baby Alfred, (later known as George ) travelled as assisted immigrants to Sydney, Australia, in 1856. There they had another nine children. Their eldest son, Alfred George, married Martha Chatters in Sydney. They had four children and the eldest, George, was my grand-father.

This is maybe more information than you require but others using this forum may find it useful.

    All the best
