Is this a sketch by Ellen Douglas, or is of her?
The Lady Ellen Douglas who attended the Dalmeny Park dinner with Princess (later Queen) Victoria was the daughter of the Earl of Morton.
Lady Ellen Susan Anne Douglas was born on 25 Sep 1824 and married in 1851, so would have been Lady Ellen Douglas in both 1832 and 1842, when she was present at the Queen's Ball, in the presence of Victoria and Albert, a wonderful pageant from times past. Ellen certainly moved in royal circles.
But she is unlikely to have been old enough to do a drawing of Princess Victoria when aged 8, I would think (Victoria would have been 13).
can anyone help identify the sitter and/or the artist?
