Lillian (Lily) Douglas married Roland Whincop. Mr and Mrs Whincop had become interested in Rudolf Steiner’s philosophy and were deeply moved by a visit to Sunfield Homes at Clent Grove, Worcester, where they experienced the quality of care and devotion given to the Special Needs children.

They subsequently bought the Hawkwood estate. On their way to take up residence there, Roland Whincop suffered a stroke and died three days later, but Lily went on to found Hawkwood College.

Lily Douglas was from the Douglas motorcycle family - but whose daughter was she?

Note: Further genealogy information on the family will be added to the Douglas Archives towards the end of the month.

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
