One of the Birch Clan from Thomas Erskine Birch's second wife, descendant Rear Admiral Grayson Birch Carter, U.S.N., Graduated Naval Academy Annapolis 1918. Stationed at Pearl Harbor December 7, 1941, served in South Pacific during World War 2, awarded Navy Cross for heroism, 3 combat Legions of Merit for Guadalcanal, Commander of Ship's Training Group at Coronado Amphibious Base 1944-1945 and Presidential Aide to President Roosevelt.
