For William

My father was Robert Kenneth Douglas, he was born here in the states.  His father was Donald Roy Clarence born Dec. 15, 1885 in Markham Township, York, Ontario.  His father was Kenneth Douglas and mother Alice Amelia (Dinnison) They were married Oct. 31, 1883 at Unioncville, Ontario.  I have been told that Alice died young at 32 and Kenneth remarried but we do not know who to and if their were any children.  Kenneth's father is Donald Douglas married to Elizabeth (Jackson).  I know they had…

Hi Carol,

Welcome to the site. If you follow this link you will find a picture of your Great Great Grandfather Donald (the first one in the list) and his wife Elisabeth Jackson, http://cemetery.canadagenweb.org/ON/ONS15559/

I am also researching a Donald Douglas in Ontario Canada but mine comes from the Acton area which is on the opposite end of Toronto from Markham. I don't know that the two Donald's are related at this point.

I don't live in that area but may be able to help in your Canadian search.

Cheers

Harold

PS: as an aside, both Harold Dixon Douglas who posted on your wall and I are named after his Uncle and my Great Uncle Harold Dixon Douglas.

I have a Donald Douglas, 24, single, Blacksmith, who settled in the District of Pictou in the spring of 1816. Donald Douglas had 2 large grants on the east side of Middle River between Rocklin & Concord Mills but apparently hadn't quite settled there by 1817.  In the 1817 census, he was married with a son and a daughter.  If he was 24 in  1816, he would have been born in 1792.  But that seems too early if your Donald's son married in 1883.

Elsewhere, it is noted that a Donald Douglass came to Pictou in the ship Harmony in 1822. It may be the Donald who in 1838 is described as a farmer with 7 children.  There is no mention of Donald Douglas (one S).

Carol, can you tell us more about Donald Kenneth Douglas? Dates and places associated with family events would be useful.  Then maybe we can track him down.

Yours aye,

William

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
