Profile Information

Which Douglas line are you researching? Dates and places help making connections.
James Douglass, 1803-1859, PA is my oldest definite ancestor. I believe I have traced back to the Baron/Laird of Drumlanrig Douglas line and original Earl of Douglases in the 1300s, but have a couple unverified links I need to confirmbetween my American and Scottish Douglas/Douglass groups.
Who is your earliest known Douglas ancestor?
Either James Douglass (1803-1859) or James Douglas, 2nd Earl of Douglas & Mar (1358-1388)

Welcome to our group, Shannon.

It seems that there are some conflicting material in this line of the Douglas family.

My research into Archibald Douglas (1665-1728) reveals unverified and conflicting information, so should be treated with caution!

This is a line that I would be pleased to sort out.

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
