The Douglas Archives

A collection of historical and genalogical records

My dad, Wilfrid Henry Douglas came to Australia as a 12-year-old, shipped out with other boys on the Larg's Bay, to attend the Fairbridge Farm School in rural Western Australia. His only sibling, his brother Woodrow Craig Douglas died at sea, only a short time after his wedding. Woodrow's submarine, the Tigris went down in the Mediterranean and never resurfaced in 1943.

Their father, Henry Douglas was married to Mina Craig in 1915. Henry was with Wilfrid Spender's 36th (Ulster) division.  I believe he may have gone to South Africa at some stage, but little information is available about Henry, and I have not been able to properly identify anything about his parents.

I would appreciate any information that may help me to find out more about this family.

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
