    This would be Briery Church, a historic Presbyterian Church located at Briery, Prince Edward County, Virginia.  At the time of James Douglas, Briery Church derived its income, in part, from the ownership and hiring out of slaves.  As I understand the situation, he tried to strike a balance between those supporting this and those who opposed it.

    J.W. DOUGLAS was born in Loudoun Co., VA, Nov 5, 1797. He apparently had no children of his own, but two step-children?
