Which Douglas line are you researching? Dates and places help making connections.
My Great Great Grandmother was Jane DOUGLAS b1813. She lived in Whitehaven in Cumberland but at some time she and her brother John had come from Edenburt in Co. Cavan. I found them on the 1821 Census with their mother Ann, who was at the tender age of just 30, a widow.
Who is your earliest known Douglas ancestor?
Jane DOUGLAS - born 1813, Ann DOUGLAS b c1790

Welcome to our group, James.
I have not been very successful in my Cumberland research, but there are some names on this list which may help: http://www.douglashistory.co.uk/history/Lists/cumberland_inhabitant...
I will be updating the page later today, if I can find more.
Also, I suggest that you search this section using the box top right. There are several 'Cumberland' references.
Yours aye,
William

William Douglas
I have just located a Rev John Douglas, who was a curate in St Bees in 1825. I am working on his entry right now. He could be a relative?
I am adding more to the Cumberland page today, as well. And linking in this entry: http://www.douglashistory.co.uk/history/clementina_douglas.htm which is a bit of unproven fun with a supposed Bonnie Prince Charlie connection.
But you are more interested in Ireland. We have a group for Douglas families in Ireland.
