Which Douglas line are you researching? Dates and places help making connections.
Deacon William Douglass 1609 - 1682 thru his son Robert Douglass m Mary Hempstead. Robert's daughter Elizabeth born 1677 married Stephen Dewolf who died in 1711. They were the parents of two boys Gideon and Stephen. One report - After her remarriage, (to Henry Rowland) she apprenticed her two sons: Gideon, (abt. 1706) age 6 to Peter PRATT a tanner & shoemaker. Stephen (abt. 1708) age 4 was sent to Samuel ELY to be trained as a weaver.
another report - Elizabeth Douglas was bpt. June 17, 1677. She had two dau. by her second husband: Elizabeth and Sary. Elizabeth was married to Rowland when she received her inheritance from her father. Her two sons by Stephen De Wolf were indentured when Gideon was four and Stephen was one. As a result Gideon was trained as a cordwainer, blacksmith, and sawyer. There is a serious study of the family of his wife Deborah (Raymond). Last I heard, it was still in the cellar of the Historical Society. CSM (CSM is C S Maginnis) parentheses are mine. I am in the Gideon DeWolf/Deolph (which eventually became Dolph) line.
