I have the following notes about Douglases from Abbotshall, which may help with your research:

Georg DOUGLASS, Abbotshall, Fife, m Aleson KIGO, 1656

Robert Bogie (born April 30, 1821 son of William and Mary) and Margaret Brown married in Abbotshall, Fife August 16, 1781 with children William, Margaret, Elizabeth and Robert born in the 1780's-1790's in Kirkcaldy. William Bogie married Mary Douglas in Abbotshall, Fife March 6, 1820 with sons Robert and William born in the early 1820's. Mary Douglas's parents are thought to be William Douglas and Helen Todd who married in Abbotshall in 1751.

William Douglas, b. 1795, Abbotshall, Fife, Scotland married Janet Ferguson. Their daughter, Isabella Douglas, b. 02 Jan 1830, Abbotshall, Fife, Scotland d. 26 Jun 1906, Chelsea, Middlesex, England married Joseph Creighton, b. 1 Oct 1826, Abbotshall, Fife, Scotland d. 09 Apr 1868, Walworth, Surrey, England and had 8 children, 4 born in Sctland a nd 4 in England

Douglas Payton, b. Abt 1825, of, Abbotshall, Fife, Scotland son of Mrs. Douglas Payton, b. Abt 1829, of, Abbotshall, Fife, Scotland (from a gravestone)

In loving remembrance of Alexander Wilson, Shipmaster born at Linktown 22.6.1824 died at Kirkcaldy 4.11.1880 a faithful Seaman and a kind father and friend.
Also to the memory of David Wilson his father born 1790 died in 1840 and Anne Douglas his mother born 1780 died 1879 (from an Abbotshall gravestone)

Thomas Renton (d. 13 Jan 1903 or 1908 aged 84) and his wife Barbara Beveridge (d. 18 March 1925) had two daughters, Mary (d. 6 May 1932) and Margaret (d. 27 August 1942) who both appeared to marry a Douglas (from an Abbotshall gravestone)

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.
