Profile Information

Which Douglas line are you researching? Dates and places help making connections.
I'm researching my family tree and rather than deviate from one relative to another I kept going back just using fathers therefore giving me a direct bloodline and I was amazed at how far I got, the further I went the more information I found, quite the opposite to what I was expecting, George Douglas Angus 1380 to 1403 was married to Richard 3rd King of Scotland daughter Lady Mary. I am trying to get as much information as I can so I can pass it all down to my son,
Who is your earliest known Douglas ancestor?
Sir William Long Legs Douglas 1215 to 1274 (my 20th Great Grandfather)

Welcome to our community, Alistair.

Now that you have done the easy bit (!) you could set yourself the target of going back 10 generations on each line. you might be surprised at how much cross-over there is as Douglases appear in maternal lines.

Yours aye,

William

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
