Profile Information

Which Douglas line are you researching? Dates and places help making connections.
Archibald Douglas of Lochmaben - Dumfriesshire (born: 1726? - but NOT as late as 1786 as you have stated). He married Mary Hake and was - through her - the father of Charlotte Douglas (b: 1772). This Archibald Douglas must have been born at least 20 years before his daughter Charlotte (b: 1772) - thus he would have been +/- 48 years old if 1726 [as stated by you] is the correct birthdate. I am very keen to find information on his parentage/general ancestry.
Who is your earliest known Douglas ancestor?
Archibald Douglas (as abovenamed), through his daughter Charlotte Douglas who married Francis Fox - a surgeon.
Tags/keywords - used to help people find you

Welcome to our group, Conrad.

I will have a look at those dates  Mauybe a typo?

If you have Douglas connections in South Africa, I would be pleased to hear about them:  http://www.douglashistory.co.uk/history/families/douglas_in_south_africa.html and http://douglashistory.ning.com/group/southern-african-connection   I am trying to get a bit further with this.

Yours aye,

William

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
