A collection of historical and genalogical records
The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.
Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.
Professions also help.
'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.
Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?

Welcome Susan Riley McKenzie !
Thomas Dunlop Douglas has an entry here: http://www.douglashistory.co.uk/history/thomas_douglas2.htm He would appear to have died without children.
Is this the same man as 'your' Thomas?
Welcome to our community, Susan.
If you type 'Leith' into the search box on this page, you will find various discussions about the Douglases of Leith.
There is also a collection of notes on this page: http://www.douglashistory.co.uk/history/william_douglasofleith.htm and links to other pages.
It is sometime since I have looked at these pages, which are 'stubs', ie not completed articles, so any help that you can give would be very welcome.
Yours aye,
William
