Welcome to our Community Network, Douglas.

Although I do not have any Gytes in my genealogy database, I am aware that several members of your family use Douglas as a forename - including your great grandfather, Alexander Douglas Gyte, who married Alice Aldridge.

Alexander Douglas Gyte

Some of the children of Samuel (b1859) and Elspeth Gyte also seem to have Douglas as a forename.

Most recently, Peter Douglas Gyte, of Yorkshire, died on 11th April 2012.

Your family appears to have been based around Liverpool, but I do not know where Samuel and Elspeth's family came from.

It would be good to know how these families, and presumably others, tie together; who your Douglas grandmother was; and why your great grandfather and others have Douglas as one of their names.

Are you in touch with Lily Stott, who i think is your aunt?  She has done a bit of work on Gyte genealogy.

Douglas, with your background, you must be the person I need to help with promotion of the proposed Douglas Gathering!!

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
