Profile Information

Which Douglas line are you researching? Dates and places help making connections.
John douglas born 1823 in Dumfermline. Served in the Argyll and Sutherland Regiment, 93rd of foot.
Who is your earliest known Douglas ancestor?
Peter Douglas born 1776 in Dunfermline, Scotland.

I am researching my Douglas family roots. My ggg grandfather Peter Douglas (weaver) was born in 1776  Dunfermline, married Mariamne Mclay in 1804 in Dunfermline and his son, John Douglas born 1823 also in Dunfermline.
John Douglas served in the 93rd foot Argyll and Sutherland regiment and was at the battle of Lucknow (India) in 1857/58 as was his brother William Douglas.

John Douglas's medal can be seen on display at Stirling Castle.

John moved to Dundee, Angus in the 1850's. He retired from the Army and along with 2 of his sons set up the Dundee City Lamplighter company.

If anyone is researching my family or have any information about them, please get in touch, thank you

Welcome to our community group, M.

I tried to sort out the Dunfermline Douglases some years ago - but don't think I got very far!  have a look here: http://www.douglashistory.co.uk/history/Lists/Dunfermline_deeds.htm

Yours aye,

William

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
